π Why You Need to Be Careful on OLX & WhatsApp
Buying used phones for reselling can make you great profit — but one scam can destroy it all.
Fake listings, non-working phones, and fraud sellers are everywhere on OLX and WhatsApp.
Here’s how to protect yourself.
π¨ 1. Too Good To Be True = Fake
If someone is selling an iPhone 12 for 25k — π© run.
Always compare prices with the real market. If it’s too cheap, it’s likely:
Stolen
iCloud locked
Non-working
A scam to collect advance payment
π 2. Avoid “Call Only” Listings
Many fake sellers write:
“Call only. WhatsApp not available.”
Real sellers will talk to you anywhere. Scammers try to keep you on call so there's no written proof.
Always deal on WhatsApp.
πΈ 3. Request Real-Time Photos or Videos
Ask the seller to:
Send a photo with today’s date written on paper
Or send a 10-second video showing phone condition & settings
If they refuse = π© FAKE.
π΅ 4. Never Send Advance Payment
Scammers will say:
“Book it with 1k”
“Pay delivery charges first”
“50% now, 50% on delivery”
Never send a single rupee without meeting the person or having buyer protection (like COD from trusted platform).
π§Ύ 5. Ask for PTA, IMEI, iCloud Info
Always ask:
IMEI number
iCloud locked or not
Factory unlocked or carrier locked
PTA status (approved, blocked, or tax required)
Use DIRBS PTA website to check IMEI.
π€ 6. Meet in Public Places Only
If you're meeting someone from OLX or WhatsApp:
Meet in public areas (cafes, markets)
Never invite them home
Always take someone with you
π§ Final Tip:
Before buying any phone —
do a 5-minute check using this post ☝️
It can save you from losing thousands.
